John Neighbors John Neighbors started playing when he was about 6 years old. Needless to say, he has hardly slowed down since he started.
He won the comptition on the Ted Mack Show at Indianapolis, when he was 10 years old, after auditioning on Kokomo WIOU radio station.
John started traveling with the Ted Mack Show, when he was about 15. He played for Lonzo and Oscar, two different times, first in 1973 and again in 1986.
In 1984 he played at the Arkansas Banjo Championship, in Hot Springs. This resulted in a job at Magic Springs, a theme park at Hot Springs.
John played at Shepherd of The Hills in 1998 and more recently was entered into the Guiness book of World Records 2006, by playing with the most banjo pickers ever assembled, in one place, at one time.
This took place at the Atlanta Braves pre-game show, at Turner Field Atlanta ,GA.
The master himself, Earl Scruggs, was among the artist taking part in this historic event.
This is just a brief capsule of the highlights in John's life, and by no means a full history of his carreer.
John and Reecie were married in 1966. They have one daughter , one son, and two grandchildren.
John is now a member of the Monday Night Jamboree house band, at Bull Shoals Theater of The Arts, located in Bull Shoals, Arkansas.
His huge talent thrills audiences, everywhere he plays. John's the only bango picker I know of who can offer up an instrumental break, on a soft ballad, and then in the next breath, bring down the house, with a fast bluegrass tune. We're honored to have him as part of our musical family. ~Bobby |
