Jimmy Wood I was born in Mount Plesant, Iowa and was raised in Los Lunas, New Mexico. My wife Dolly Wood (YEP) and I were married there in 1965. I had joined the US Army in 1964 so Uncle Sam sent us to Germany for 3 years. Our only daughter, Edina, was born there in 1967.
I spent 8 years in the Army, 2 of which were in Viet Nam. After I got out (1972) we lived in Georgia, New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada. I worked at many jobs but mostly as a mechanic. I retired from a chemical plant, located in Henderson Nevada, in 1999.
We've done alot of traveling since and hope to do more if our health and money hold out. Dolly and I have 4 Grandchildren scattered all over the country. They are in their 20's now and have to make a living, so they're not near as much fun as they were, but we love them all dearly and spend as much time with them as we can.
My interest in music probably came from watching my uncles play and sing. They have played with a lot of bands in Southern Iowa and Amarillo, Texas.
One of my earliest memories is being on a stage singing Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. I had to be about 3 years old. Only one of my uncles is still with us. He's in his 80's now and I still enjoy going to Amarillo to play music with him and my cousins.
I am presently a member of Ozark Music Center in Yellville where we try to get together a few times a week. I'm also a member of the Highway 202 band and we sing at local nursing homes and charitable events.
I also really enjoy performing at the Monday Night Jamboree. I hope to see you there... ~Jim |
